Export a client certificate from Internet Explorer / Google Chrome / Edge

These 3 browsers use the same certificate store (on Windows), the export procedure is almost the same, only the beginning differs depending on the browser.

  • Internet Explorer: click on the gear icon in the upper right corner. In the menu that appears, click on Internet Options. Go to the "Content" tab and click on the "Certificates" button
  • Google Chrome: click on the 3 vertical dots at the top right. In the menu that appears, click on "Settings". Go to "Security and Privacy", "Security". Scroll down to the bottom and click on "Manage certificates".

Once the certificate window is present, follow the instructions below to export a client certificate (generating a .pfx file):

  • You'll find your certificate in the Personal you should find your certificate. Select it.

  • Click on Export and get through the first page of the helper

  • Select Export the private key then click on Next

  • Choose the export to PKCS12 format and check only the first of the 3 boxes (i.e. Include all certificates in the certification path).

  • You will then need to enter the encryption password for the PKCS12 file twice. This password will be necessary to re-import the certificate and its private key.

  • Finaly choose the file's path and name

  • At the summary level, confirm! The file is now created!
